| Abstract | Iris junonia, recently documented for the first time in the flora of Azerbaijan, was discovered in 2017 within the Gotursu and Janat regions, located east of the village Bichenak in the Shahbuz district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (Azerbaijan). To date, I. junonia has been recorded in Azerbaijan exclusively on these two geographically restricted sites, where it occurs as isolated individuals. Given its limited distribution and sparse population density, we recommend that I. junonia be included in forthcoming editions of the Red Data Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic under the category Vulnerable (VU, A2c+3c). However, it should be noted that the species' current conservation status of the species according to the IUCN Red List remains undetermined. |
