Abstract

Monitoring of rare and protected species populations is an important task for the federal and regional Red Data Book processing. It provides also useful information to adjust the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The paper presents new data on biology, ecology, and chorology of four rare and mainly protected ground beetle species (or subspecies) in South Russia, namely Carabus scabrosus colchicus, C. clathratus, Carterus gilvipes, and C. angustipennis lutschniki. Our data were obtained during field monitoring investigations in 2011–2019, as well as by investigating material from some available insect collections. Changes in the bioecological and distribution characteristics of these species may be caused by modification of their life cycles during adaptation to the changing environment conditions.
